How does the Asymptotic formulae set window to select event

Dear statistics-experts,

I have a question about the calculating significance method used in the asymptotic formulae (Eur. Phys. J. C 71:1554 (2011)).
Generally, I estimate the signal significance by the function Ns/sqrt(Nb) , in the case of large amounts of data. That means i should find the best window to count the number of events. Otherwise, too large window will increase background events Nb that will reduce the estimate.
About the program AsymptoticCalculator, how it works to find out the best window.

I would appreciate it if you could answer my question in a hurry.

Best regards
