Using Virtual Monte Carlo, its advantage to direct GEANT4, GRAS and others

Hi There,

I’m a GEANT4 user. More specifically, I use GRAS (Geant4 Radiation Analysis for Space - http://space-env.esa.int/index.php/geant4-radiation-analysis-for-space.html).

I read a little about VMC, and I would be grateful I someone could answer some questions that I have:

  • What are the advantages in using ROOT VMC when comparing to the direct use of GEANT4 and GRAS?

  • Once having ROOT installed from Ubuntu repos, do I need to install additional packages for VMC? Or for GEANT4? Or does ROOT already come with everything?

  • How do I know which version of GEANT4 is being used by ROOT?

Thank you very much in advance.

Regards,
Leonardo.

May be that’s more a question for the GEANT4 forum ?
