Umlauts in axis title

Hi!

I’m trying to use german umlauts in an axis title. So far the best I came up with
was to use the second derivative form TLatex (#ddot{a}) to mimic the
appearance. Is there another/better way to use umlauts?

No, nothing better right now. That is the only way to do it.
