RooAbsReal::createProfile how it works

Dear Experts,
I would like to know the answer to the following very simple question:
the member function "RooAbsReal* createProfile(const RooArgSet& paramsOfInterest)"
of the ROOT class RooAbsReal performs a minimization at each value of the parameter
or it simply plots the NLL as a function of the parameter keeping fixed all other parameters ?
