Png and gif file permissions

Hi ROOTers,

When creating png files with root (v5.16.00) the file permission on the created file is read/write only for the user and not group or others. When creating a gif file however, the permission is automatically set to read/write for the user and read for both group and other.

Can someone please explain why this is, and whether there is an option to set the file permissions when creating them?

with the latest ROOT version (5.19/03) I get the same permissions:

pcepsft15.cern.ch> ls -l c1.gif c1.png
-rw-r--r--  1 couet sf  7287 Apr 18 14:38 c1.gif
-rw-r--r--  1 couet sf 10351 Apr 18 14:38 c1.png

this is odd, I re-ran my program and this time I got group and other read permission with the pngs…
