in the ~/.gv file. Afterwards, run the “gv-update-userconfig” command.

I don’t know how general it is.
Maybe it’s just “gv” version specific (i.e. recent versions of “gv” require/provide it while older ones do not).
At least, after I created a new “.gv” file, my “gv” refused to start without prior running “gv-update-userconfig”.
In this case, you might consider writing:
in the ~/.gv file. On some system, it may be required to run the “gv-update-userconfig” command afterwards (if it is present).
