Downloading and running root on MacBook Air with High Sierra

I downloaded both of the OsX 10.13 clang90 binary distributions for my MacBook air. I am having troubles getting it to run. The .dmg version is in my applications folder on my laptop and the .tar.gz version is in my documents. I have tried to find tutorials for Mac but have not succeeded on finding any. I am not sure if I am to download anything for this to work in my terminal. Please help.

When you download the .dmg file it fall in your Downloads folder. From there you double click on it (via the finder) . You will then see a new icon having the .mpkg extension. Double clicking on it should install ROOT.

I got it to work with the .tar version but I’m not sure how.
