Can you help me get started with ROOT? OSX High Sierra

I’m new to the OSX Environment. Do I need to download Xcode too?
The reason why I want to use ROOT is because a friend shared .C file with me and I want to run that ROOT code.
Could help me install ROOT on OSX 10.13.1 and run that .C file, please!

xcode-select --install
