Will Garfield++ consider quenching effect in gas

Dear experts

I want to simulate particles ionize in gas mixture where is He:iC4H10, 90:10. I would like to consider pair production and multiple scattering by Geant4, meanwhile I want to consider about quenching effect so that I don’t get too much signal on wire. Will Garfield++ support such kind of simulation? Do I need to set a threshold of photon energy to separate them to Geant4 and Garfield++?

Hello @Crisps,

let me add in the loop @hschindl

Cheers,

Hi,
I’m not 100% sure what you mean by quenching effect, but yes, you can combine Geant4 and Garfield++ simulations. You could simulate the photo interaction with Geant4 and the subsequent drift/avalanche and induced signal using Garfield. You can find some background and a conceptual description for how to interface Garfield++ and Geant4 here: Geant4 interface | Garfield++
But you will need to adapt the code to your needs…

Thank you for the documentation, it says Heed will take care of all gammas, I wonder if it considers HEP processes (like pair production)?

No, Heed only considers photo absorption but not pair production or Compton scattering…

Which means I need to set the energy threshold that pass photon to Garfield++: the cross section of photon should be large enough compare to other two processes?
