Wanted: The permanent URL for each chapter

The new 5.14 documentation is a nice New Year gift for all of us.

May I ask you to enhance it a a little bit more?

Is it possible to create a permanent URL for each ROOT manual chapter?
Each time you update your doc that introduces a new chapter numbering one has to go through all his /her docs to adjust the links.

It is not convenient.

Is it possible to provide the dedicated “soft link” for each chapter?
For example,
ftp://root.cern.ch/root/doc/chapter29.pdf can eventually become
ftp://root.cern.ch/root/doc/chapter.pdf etc

The link from that file to something like

ftp://root.cern.ch/root/doc/RootInstallationChapter.pdf
and / or
ftp://root.cern.ch/root/doc/5.14/RootIn … hapter.pdf

would be very useful.

This will really simplify the job to maintain OUR ROOT-related documentation up-to-date.

Hi Valeri,

Yes, your proposal is reasonable and can be done. The last User’s Guide edition has no changes concerning the main chapters - the numbers used in PFD file names correspond to chapter numbers. I agree that names as “Histogram.pdf”, “Graphs.pdf”, etc. are better.

Hi Valeri,

The file names of User’s Guide v5.16 were changed in a way to contain the chapter number and the chapter title. I hope this will help.
