Dear ROOT Users,
due to a security incident, we were very unfortunately much longer offline than we ever expected. The incident pointed to a weakness in one of our services and identifying and fixing it took much longer than expected. Our sincere apologies and a thanks to the hackers for exposing the weakness. Of course, our server having the name “root.cern.ch” is like a hacker’s honey pot, they all try to hack the root of CERN. 
To further mitigate future hack attempts we will be improving in the coming week our online infrastructure by moving services to other platforms. We hope to do this as transparently as possible with as little downtime as possible but early next week we may be offline for a number of hours when we move some services to other platforms. We will announce the down time ahead of time.
