Root.exe does not exist!

I tried to install root on my new ubuntu setup. After completing, it shows the error
root: can’t start ROOT – check that /home/user/project/root/bin/root.exe exists!

Welcome to the ROOT forum!

Did you build yourself? You should be able to just grab the ROOT binaries from here: https://root.cern/download/root_v6.20.02.Linux-ubuntu18-x86_64-gcc7.5.tar.gz (see https://root.cern/releases/release-62002/ for 6.20/02).
