ROOT 4.08 new versus pro version

Hi,

We see the new release of 4.08 - it is posted as a Production release on the ROOT home page. One of our collaborators noticed the following page:
root.cern.ch/root/Availability.html
where 4.08 is listed as New rather than Production.
Though I do note that it is the Recommended version.

Our group typically holds off migrating to a new version of ROOT until it is termed a production release.

Is our hesitation unwarrented?

Do you have an idea of how long 4.08 would be termed new?

Thanks,
Heather

Hi Heather,

ROOT pro version 4.00/08 has been announced on July 12. see:
root.cern.ch/root/roottalk/roottalk04/2148.html

The page root.cern.ch/root/Availability.html
indicates now
-New = 4.01/01 (development version to become pro in December)
-Pro = 4.00/08
-Old = 3.10/02
