I have some files were truncated when these files have been copied from an old machine into a disk. At that time I didn’t know the machine is so old that no files bigger than 5G could be copied out successfully. Currently, the old machine isn’t accessible anymore due to some technical problems. I need to analyze the truncated files.
When I open these files on a ROOT prompt, I got such error messages, and the filed couldn’t be opened normally.
My question is, is possible to recover these files in the sense of being opened normally ?
From the output, it looks like the meta information (list of things on the file) may have been in the part that was truncated (i.e. otherwise the Recover would have been successful). I am afraid that it would be very difficult to extract useful information out of the file …
