Open alicecaf locally

Hello,
I want to connect to alicecaf from my local machine out of CERN via
TProof::Open("zyin@alicecaf.cern.ch");

What I get is the following message:

081115 10:33:16 001 Proofx : XrdProofConn::Init: connection attempt failed: sleep 2 secs
081115 10:33:30 001 Proofx : XrdProofConn::Init: connection attempt failed: sleep 2 secs
081115 10:33:34 001 Proofx : XrdProofConn::Init: connection attempt failed: sleep 2 secs
081115 10:33:38 001 Proofx : XrdProofConn::Init: connection attempt failed: sleep 2 secs

Could you help me out? I have the valid alien-token.

Thank you very much for your kind help.

Best regards,
Zhongbao

Hi,

The “alicecaf.cern.ch” machine is not visible from outside CERN directly. You need to open an SSH tunnel via lxplus.cern.ch:

$ ssh -fN4 -L 3000:alicecaf.cern.ch:1093 lxplus.cern.ch
*******************************************************************************
* The LXPLUS Public Login Unix Service *
* http://cern.ch/ComputingRules : Govern the use of CERN computing facilities *
*******************************************************************************
zyin@lxplus.cern.ch's password:
$

If this operation is successful then ‘alicecaf.cern.ch’ is mapped on port 3000 of your local machine, so you should be able to open a session with the following command:

$root -l
root[] TProof *proof = TProof::Open("localhost:3000")

You can find more details at
