Hello everyone,
I am using TMinuit2 to fit some histograms to a function. I have noticed that sometimes root is unable to properly compute the MINOS error. This tends to happen in my experience when the histogram has poor statistics and more bin to bin fluctuations. In addition, my function has 3 variables that are corelated/anti-correlated so often the covariance matrix must be “forced pos def”. I am wondering if these two things: the correlation between the parameters and the inability to compute minos errors are related.
The issue is that sometimes I receive at the end of my fitting the following message:
Minos: Parameter : p2 is at Lower limit.
Minos: Lower error for parameter p2 : -7.97468e-06
Minos: Invalid upper error for parameter p2
Minos: Upper error for parameter p2 : 9.37539
If “Minos: Invalid upper error for parameter p2”, then what does the upper error of parameter p2 that ROOT is quoting mean? p2=9.37539?
The functional form that I fit to is:

the values of j and i indicate a range over which I scan. I fit using:
fit_results[j][i] = observed_incl_TeV->Fit(fit_text,fit_par);
where fit_par=“SR0EL”.
