Intro and queries regarding GSoc 26'

Hello ROOT Community,

My name is Raymond Thomas Roshy, and I am a 3rd-year undergraduate at BITS Pilani, Goa Campus, pursuing a dual degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. I am writing to express my strong interest in contributing to the ROOT project for GSoC 2026.

I have a strong technical foundation in C++ and Python, alongside academic coursework that aligns well with scientific computing. specifically Numerical Analysis and Operations Research. Additionally, I have gained valuable experience conducting research under various professors, which has honed my ability to understand complex requirements and work independently on technical problems.

Given my background, I am particularly interested in the mathematical and statistical components of ROOT (such as MathCore, MathMore, or fitting libraries).

I am currently setting up the development environment and exploring the codebase. I would love to know:

  1. Are there any specific algorithms related to Numerical Analysis or Optimization that the team is looking to implement or improve?

  2. Could you point me toward any “good first issues” or modules where a newcomer with a math-heavy background could be most useful?

I am eager to learn and contribute to the project.

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out.
We are preparing for GSoC also this year! You can see for example ROOT’s projects for 2025 here.

Looking at the good first issues is of course a great way to start, and I would encourage you to do so. Moreover, if you want, you can have a look to the ROOT Open Projects: ROOT Open Projects – .

Cheers,
Danilo, ROOT Project Leader
