Installing ROOT on Mac

Dear ROOTers,

I was going to install ROOT v15.5/08 on Mac OS X PowerPC 10.4.9. After unpacking I set my laptop as instruction:

$export ROOTSYS=/Applications/root/root
$export PATH=$PATH:$ROOTSYS/bin
$export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH:$ROOTSYS/lib
$export MANPATH=$MANPATH:$ROOTSYS/man

Then I executed
$root

The result was
dyld: Library not loaded: /afs/.cern.ch/sw/lcg/external/pcre/4.4/osx104_ppc_gcc401/lib/libpcre.0.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/root/root/lib/libCore.dylib
Reason: image not found

Could you please tell me what the problem is and how I can run root successfully?

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
YunTse

The build of ROOT provided by LCG can only be run on a platform with afs installed (as it assumes external libs on afs). For standalone binaries download from the ROOT download page, or build from source.

Cheers, Fons.
