Compilation problem in a dual opteron with CentOS 5

I am trying to compile root 5.18 on a dual 64bit opteron machine but I get the following error when compiling MathMore.so

/usr/bin/ld: /usr/local/lib/libgslcblas.a(sasum.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol’ can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC

Can anyone help

You must install your GSL library with the option -PIC when configuring.
see the README/INSTALL page of GSL

Dear Rene,

compiled gsl-1.10 with:

./configure --with-pic
make
make install

then compiled root with:

./configure linuxx8664gcc
make -j2
make install

Everything installed with no problems.
