The preferred citation for ROOT is listed on github: GitHub - root-project/root: The official repository for ROOT: analyzing, storing and visualizing big data, scientifically
This is great, because it ties in a link to the specific version used. However, the latest version listed on Zenodo seems to be 6.20, which is somewhat outdated now.
What is the preferred citation if using a version of ROOT which is not listed on Zenodo? (in my case, the 6.30.xx family).
@ferhue Thanks for that context – and it seems rather fortuitous that I ask about this today when it seems you have just recently been trying to move this forward!
I had done a quick search of the forum, but didn’t come across the github issues. That certainly explains why Zenodo doesn’t have the newer releases, and it sounds like the acceptable workaround is to just cite the same old reference which was the standard for so many years: https://doi.org/10.1016/S0168-9002(97)00048-X
In my case, of using the 6.30 family, I have also indicated this release, but have not provided any further DOI, since as far as I can tell, one does not yet exist. Hoping we can get the PR approved and this workflow automated for the future!
