Binning of 2D histograms

Hello everybody,

My question may seem to be trivial or to lack of interest, but I wanted to know one thing about the resolution (through the binning) of the 2D histograms. I noticed that the binning in 2D took the shape of points inside squares, more or less little, when changing the binning. It is logical when you consider the passage from 1D to 2D, but do you know how the points are dispersed in these areas whose contours are shapes ? Is this totally random or does it follow a special law ?
Cheers,

Jerome

points are generated randomly within one cell. The number of points is proportional to the number of entries in the cell.
