has anybody experience using ROOT on AMDs Opteron processors?

Yes, the ALICE collaboration have experience with the Opteron.
Fons as well. You may communicate with him directly. I am not sure if all results
can be made publicly available.

Hi Otto,

with the AMD Opteron 1.8 GHz, 1 MB cache, we reached 957 rootmarks for the stress benchmark (compiled with gcc). Only the 3.06 GHz P4 Xeon got higher with 1021.5 rootmarks (using the Intel icc v7 compiler, only 752 rootmarks with gcc) . The 1 GHz Itanium 2 gives 409 rootmarks with gcc.

We’ve no numbers for the G5 yet, so for the time being the Opteron is the fastest 64 bit on the market.
