I suggest you start by reading the available documentation at
root.cern.ch/drupal/content/proof
This will give you an idea of PROOF and what it can do.
You should then continue with the tutorial examples under $ROOTSYS/tutorials/proof . In particular, have a look at ‘runProof.C’ .
