My research activity is in the field of experimental nuclear physics and focuses on the study of nuclear properties at extreme conditions of temperature, angular momentum and isospin, by means of in-beam gamma spectroscopy. In particular the aim of the research is to study the structure of nuclei whose proton and neutron numbers are very different to those found in stable nuclei, the so-called exotic nuclei. The experiments are performed at international stable and radioactive beam facilities (e.g. LNL, GANIL, GSI, RIKEN) using present and new generation gamma spectroscopy arrays. In parallel, an important part of my activity is devoted to R&D on segmented HPGe detectors for gamma ray tracking and novel scintillation detectors (LaBr:Ce); this work is done in the context of large international collaborations, e.g. AGATA project (Advanced GAmma-ray Tracking Array).
